activities to promote engagement with ideas and learning material

and further development of interests

GET ACTIVE!

explore a local forest, pond, beach, etc

read about native plants, wildlife, geology, the ecosystem, etc; then go look for yourself!! you could even organize a group of interested families/students and find a professional botanist, naturalist, forestry agent, etc to lead you on a tour and share their expertise.

learn from how the forest naturally sustains itself, then brainstorm ways to apply your observations in how you plant your own edible ecosystem. also construct a greenhouse and turn your kitchen waste into the best soil you can get

CREATE!

build a website

instead of a power point or before creating a large project on paper, try building a website

(wix.com makes it easy, creative and fun!)

tips:

1. build an outline

create a menu that highlights your main points, and create a page for each one to elaborate.

2. add media and images

search youtube for relevant media, and/or create your own

3. embed bibliography

with links, you can cite your sources right in your page! (the HTML (learn more here) for this is [linked text])
